If you use a modified version of this template with the same name download it locally before proceeding further as Elxis Updater will reset this template to the default layout and style. Download this tool and unzip it in the directory where your Elxis installation is located. By unzipping this package a folder named "up20081" will be created having as contents the Elxis updater. Do not touch any of the files/packages inside that folder. Make the up20081/log.txt file writable (permissions 666). Make up20081/config.php file writable (permissions 666). Turn your Elxis site offline. Open your browser and navigate to the up20081 folder (for example: http://mysite.com/up20081/). Elxis Updater will show up. If you see any warnings on the initial check, fix them and re-try. Click Next until all steps are complete (19 steps in total). Be patient and read carefully any messages may appear. If a step fail Elxis Updater will stop on this step and will prompt you to solve the problem and re-try. Elxis Updater has an integrated chmod tool. Use it to make asked files/folders writable when there is a permissions restriction. If even that tool can not change permissions you will have to do it elsewhere (via ftp, ssh, control panel, etc). At the end you can do a file system integrity check of your upgraded site to make sure everything is fine. If the integrity check inform you that a file needs update take that file from the Elxis 2008.1 full release and replace the outdated file. At the end you should see a message saying that your site is up-to-date. Notice that the updated files will be owned by the web server user. If, in the future wish to update, modify or remove any of them and you are not allowed via FTP, use the integrated to Elxis Chmod tool. When finish read the log.txt file and, if upgrade completed successfully, remove the backup files that Elxis Updater created. Don't forget to completely delete the up20081 folder when finish!
