Elxis Updater is an automatic tool for upgrading an Elxis 2008.0 installation to version 2008.1. The tool is fully automatic, you only have to click Next several times till the whole upgrade procedure is finish. Please read carefully the how-to guide for this tool before proceeding further.

Elxis Updater tool will do all the hard upgrade job for you automatically. Under some circumstances (mostly due to file permissions restrictions) you might face some problems, but there is solution for everything and this tool is smart enough to bypass such problems. Read this mini how-to before you start upgrading your Elxis 2008.0 installation to version 2008.1.

This tool is for upgrading Elxis 2008.0 to 2008.1. No other past or future version is supported by this tool. As Elxis 2008.1 runs only under PHP 5 make sure if your server supports PHP 5. In Elxis Updater's front-page there is a screen that tells you if your system is ready to be upgrading to version 2008.1. Elxis updater most probably will not work if you have safe_mode enabled (either Elxis work without problems under safe_mode). The enable of FTP access over files on your Elxis configuration is required in order for the Elxis Updater to be able to update files owned by the local ftp user.

Upgrading to Elxis 2008.1

We are not responsible for any damages, such as data loss may occur to your site due to this tool. Elxis Updater is tested on local and online sites and works fine but we do not guarantee anything. Back up your site before proceeding further. Elxis Updater will also update the default okto template. If you use a modified version of this template with the same name download it locally before proceeding further as Elxis Updater will reset this template to the default layout and style.

Download this tool and unzip it in the directory where your Elxis installation is located. By unzipping this package a folder named "up20081" will be created having as contents the Elxis updater.Do not touch any of the files/packages inside that folder.

Make the up20081/log.txt file writable (permissions 666).

Make up20081/config.php file writable (permissions 666).

Turn your Elxis site offline.

Open your browser and navigate to the up20081 folder (for example: http://mysite.com/up20081/). Elxis Updater will show up. If you see any warnings on the initial check, fix them and re-try.

Click Next until all steps are complete (19 steps in total). Be patient and read carefully any messages may appear.

If a step fail Elxis Updater will stop on this step and will prompt you to solve the problem and re-try.

Elxis Updater has an integrated chmod tool. Use it to make asked files/folders writable when there is a permissions restriction. If even that tool can not change permissions you will have to do it elsewhere (via ftp, ssh, control panel, etc).

At the end you can do a file system integrity check of your upgraded site to make sure everything is fine. If the integrity check inform you that a file needs update take that file from the Elxis 2008.1 full release and replace the outdated file. At the end you should see a message saying that your site is up-to-date.

Notice that the updated files will be owned by the web server user. If, in the future wish to update, modify or remove any of them and you are not allowed via FTP, use the integrated to Elxis Chmod tool.

When finish read the log.txt file and, if upgrade completed successfully, remove the backup files that Elxis Updater created.

Don't forget to completely delete the up20081 folder when finish!
